It is important that you let us know in advance what you would like, as we don't want to see good milk going to waste and we don't want you to go without.
If you don't think you will be in when we deliver please make sure there is someone to take in your milk, as we don't want to leave your milk outside in warm weather.
The milk will have a shelf life of seven days.
For the time being we are offering you the choice of either, whole milk or semi-skimmed milk in 1 litre cartons. If you would like smaller cartons of milk please let us know. If you would like to order organic cream please contact us and we will pass on your order to the farmer.
We are in the process of sourcing good quality organic cheese from small organic farmers we will let you know as soon as it becomes available.
Non-homogonized
The milk we sell has not been homogonized. This means that other than the pasturization, it has not been processed and retains its natural composition. When you leave the milk to stand, you will notice that the cream settles on the top of the milk. You can shake the carton before you use it, or if you wish you can remove the cream and use it for something else.
The Farm
We are supplied by Manor Farm in Dorset. This is a small organic farm that is family run by Pam and Will Best. They adhere to a strict organic and environmental ethic of farming. Manor Farm is a 270-acre chalkland holding in the Cerne Valley. It has been farmed organically since 1983. The farm falls within the South Wessex Downs, this is a designated Environmentally Sensitive Area. During the summer the cows graze pastures containing a high proportion of clover. The summer growth is also conserved for the winter as hay and silage During the winter the cows are housed in a large barn with generous straw bedding and are fed on silage, hay and home-grown cereals.
Organic Goodness
Organic cows eat grass that has not been treated with chemicals or pesticides. They have a happier life with more freedom and space to move around. Organic cows are not pumped with hormones to increase their milk yield. Apart from the obvious benefits to the cows and to you, organic farming has been shown to be better for wildlife and the environment. Organic farmers use natural farming methods to create healthy soil, rear healthy animals and to produce high quality food.
Organic milk is naturally higher in Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, Vitamin A (Beta Carotene) and certain other antioxidants than non-organic milk.
According to Soil associations standards, Organic farm animals:
- Must have access to fields (when weather and ground conditions permit) and are truly free range
- Must have plenty of space - which helps to reduce stress and disease
- Must be fed a diet that is as natural as possible and free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
- Must only be given drugs to treat an illness
- Cannot be given hormones which make them grow more quickly or make them more productive.
